Abstract:
In recent years both independent living and assisted living facilities have moved up on the acuity scale. Independent facilities now provide significantly more personal care, and assisted living facilities are offering third party services comparable to nursing care in the past. Design and programmatic changes have dramatically increased both the development and operating expenses. This article will explore the demographics driving these changes, the market for assisted living and the implications for its design.
